Digital Screens and DED: Unveiling the Link

Dear Dr. Renukaprasad A R,
How does long-term digital screen usage affect meibomian gland structure and function?
Working with visual display terminals (VDTs) is becoming increasingly important in the global information age. Long-term VDTs usage, especially for more than four hours daily, is associated with a high incidence of dry eye disease (DED). Recent clinical studies have suggested that meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), caused by long-term VDTs work, plays a more significant role in determining the severity of dry eye.
Watch this exciting video to know more about DED and computer vision syndrome (CVS) and the association between digital screen use and DED.

Highlights -
  • Definition, etiology, and clinical manifestations of DED
  • CVS and its impact on the eye
  • MGD and goblet cell dysfunction in digital screen users
  • Prevention and treatment approaches for CVS

Efficacy of Urea-based Moisturizer for Dry Skin in T2D

Dear Dr. Renukaprasad A R,
In patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), skin xerosis, calluses, and fissures present on the shins and feet may result in the development of ulcers. Effective foot care for people with diabetes includes regular moisturizing as a key preventive measure.1
Urea, a natural moisturizing factor, is a potent emollient and keratolytic agent. Arginine improves microcirculation, while urea and carnosine inhibit the formation and accumulation of advanced glycated end products. Collectively, these ingredients improve skin hydration.1
Check out this exclusive Journal Watch, where we have summarized a randomized, 8-month, assessor-blinded, controlled study where the efficacy of urea, arginine, and carnosine-based cream for severe foot xerosis in DM patients was evaluated.
