Squamous Metaplasia: Why Artificial Tears?

Docplexus - Community of 380,000+ Doctors
Dear Renukaprasad A R,
Squamous metaplasia is a condition involving corneal and conjunctival damage caused by worsening dry eye disease (DED). It mainly manifests as loss of conjunctival cells and adversely affects the tear film and ocular surface, resulting in morphological changes, loss of goblet cells, or altered goblet cell function. Therefore, the severity of DED determines the degree of squamous metaplasia. Polyethylene glycol-propylene glycol/hydroxypropyl guar (PEG-PG/HPG) eyedrop is an artificial tear formulation that provides symptomatic relief and ocular surface protection for patients.
Here is an article discussing squamous metaplasia and the efficacy of artificial tears in treating the condition among DED patients based on evidence from a study.
Highlights:
  • An overview of squamous metaplasia
  • The importance of using PEG-PG-HPG eyedrops to treat the condition
  • Clinical evidence demonstrating the beneficial effects of PEG-PG-HPG eyedrops

sSMBG in Early Diabetes: St. Carlos Study

Docplexus - Community of 380,000+ Doctors
Dear Renukaprasad A R,
Early and adequate therapy is one of the most effective ways to control type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, patients must actively participate in self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) to achieve glycemic objectives.
SMBG is significantly more beneficial in current T2DM therapy when performed in an organized manner. Structured SMBG (sSMBG) assists in attaining glycemic objectives, enables patients to meet dietary and physical activity goals, and assists healthcare practitioners (HCPs) in optimizing hypoglycemic treatments.
Check out this exclusive Journal Watch in the RocheDiabetes Infocenter, where two studies that demonstrate the relevance of sSMBG in the early treatment of diabetes have been discussed.
