Hi Renukaprasad A R, Glaucoma is an optical neuropathy characterized by the loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), which causes damage to the optic nerve head (ONH) and observable visual field abnormalities. Although increasing intraocular pressure (IOP) is the most common cause of glaucoma, there is growing evidence that vascular variables play a role in the disease's development. Age, gender (women are at a higher risk than men), family history, and race/ethnicity are some of the general risk factors for glaucoma. Systemic and ocular vascular factors are also linked with this condition. Some of the systemic risk factors include diabetes mellitus, smoking, pseudoexfoliation syndrome and ocular perfusion pressure.
