Dear Dr. Renukaprasad A R, Can lubricant viscosity contribute to the extended ocular residence time? Dry eye disease (DED) treatment is based on the severity of the disease. Tear retention, tear stimulation, topical or systemic anti-inflammatory medication, and environmental approaches are strategies for effective DED management. However, frequent instillation of lubricants is necessary due to their short residence time on the ocular surface. Ocular lubricants in gel form are therefore preferred. Here's an infographic that proves the impact of three different formulations of gel lubricants on the tear film thickness. Highlights:- Etiology and pathophysiology of DED
- Common problems associated with lubricants to treat DED
- DED treatment techniques and therapy-related issues
- Effect of various lubricant eye gels on tear film thickness
