How Does Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Cause DED ?

Hi Renukaprasad A R,
The meibomian glands are the lipid secreting glands in the eyelids that maintain tear film stability. Corneal disorders, eyelid inflammation, and microbial growth are significant causes of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which ultimately causes dry eye disease (DED) among individuals. This vicious circle gives an idea of the pathogenic mechanism that connects both MGD and DED.
Here is an article that gives an overview of the new pathophysiological scheme for MGD to identify the pathological mechanisms of DED better.
Highlights:
  • An overview of MGD and its classification
  • A synopsis of MGD pathophysiology
  • The vicious cycle in DED
  • The targeted therapeutic approaches for DED

Join ▶️ Treatment Choices in Phlebology Session

Hi Renukaprasad A R,
Among the many available treatment modalities for chronic venous diseases, the patient's condition, associated risk factors, and cost factors play a major role in concluding the treatment plan, which is never the same for all. Despite the patient's interest as the core of any medical treatment, there are times when a doctor's financial interest leads to unnecessary prescription of expensive treatment resulting in unethical practices around it.
We have an expert phlebologist, Dr. Erika Mendoza, joining us TODAY at 6:00 PM IST for a MasterSeries session on "Choosing Wisely in Phlebology: Hearing from the Expert", organized in collaboration with the Venous Association of India, where she will discuss:
  • The need of treating veins - When and how against the financial interests of the doctor
  • Current scenario of varicose veins treatment globally
  • Clinical classification according to CEAP
  • How is decision-making influenced by factors other than the patient's needs?
  • Discuss real-world examples
  • Availability of procedures, reimbursement, and knowledge

Blood Glucose Level: The Fifth Vital Sign

Hi Renukaprasad A R,
Frequent monitoring of blood glucose levels offers risk mitigation of glycemic variability and improves the quality of life for diabetic patients.1 In addition, it also has a significant impact on the disease prognosis among non-diabetic and hospitalized patients.2
Glucose monitoring devices provide convenient, cost-effective, and efficient blood glucose monitoring for routine check-ups and in-hospital patients.2
Check out this exclusive content by the RocheDiabetes infocenter , where the rationale behind considering blood glucose level as a fifth vital sign in the routine clinical workup for non-diabetic and hospitalized patients is discussed.

Patient-centric Treatments of Venous Diseases

Hi Renukaprasad A R,
Despite various advances in the treatment of venous disease, not one modality has proven ideal and shown long-term efficacy against them. Several factors influence the choice of treatment made in real-time, including cost factor, patient condition, associated risk factors, the skill of the doctor, or availability of equipment, without compromising with the main aim of providing the best patient outcomes with the least complications.
For such guidance and a philosophical talk, we have Dr. Erica Mendoza, joining us for a live MasterSeries session on "Choosing Wisely in Phlebology: Hearing from the Expert", organized in collaboration with the Venous Association of India, on 27th May 2022, 6:00 PM IST.
Key pointers:
  • Current Scenario of varicose veins treatment globally
  • Clinical classification according to CEAP
  • What do we know about Phlebology? Primary vs Secondary Data
  • Choosing wisely concept
