Immune thrombocytopenia, also known as idiopathic or immune thrombocytopenic purpura, is an acquired bleeding diathesis that results from premature platelet destruction, reduced platelet production, or a combination of both. Among infective causes, viral infections like dengue are generally the commonest ones. Other non-dengue infections include fungal and bacterial infections (gram-negative), enteric fever, malaria, and malignancies.
