Co-management of DED and Ocular Surgery

Dear Dr. Renukaprasad A R,
What is your opinion about dry eye disease (DED) and its co-management by optometrists and ophthalmologists during ocular surgeries?
DED complications often remain unrecognized and, therefore, untreated. And even if they get treated promptly, ocular surgeries can set de novo DED in motion or worsen a pre-existing one. Hence, optometrists and ophthalmologists must be aware of surgical procedures requiring cross-referrals between them about ocular surface disease (OSD) signs, symptoms, assessments, management, and recommendations during pre-, peri-, and post-surgical phases.
View this infographic that highlights different ways to manage DED with ocular surgeries!

Highlights:

  • De novo and pre-existing DED
  • LASIK and cataract surgeries for DED
  • Optometrists and ophthalmologists' cross-referrals
