  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus has been on the rise in India; its prevalence has increased from 7.1% in 2009 to 8.9% in 2019.
  • Diabetic neuropathy is a serious complication in diabetic patients. Among its diverse forms, diabetic peripheral neuropathy , commonly affecting feet, legs, arms, and hands, has a high prevalence of 18.8 to 61.9% in India.
  • Alcoholic neuropathy resulting from excessive consumption of alcohol and toxic neuropathy resulting from exposure to toxins are neuropathies that are not caused by diabetes.
