DKA & Overcoming Barriers to Insulin Therapy

Dear Dr. Renukaprasad A R,
Among several complications of type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is potentially life-threatening. However, DKA is preventable through patient education and care. Furthermore, close monitoring of ketones, glucose, venous pH, and serum electrolytes and replacement of fluid and potassium along with insulin infusion help manage DKA.
Lack of belief in insulin therapy, fear of hypoglycemia, change in lifestyle, and cost of insulin are some of the barriers to insulin therapy among patients. Similarly, hesitation in initiating and intensifying insulin therapy is a barrier identified among HCPs. Therefore, all these barriers must be addressed to improve glycemic control among patients.
Join the reputed endocrinologists and diabetologists to learn more about DKA and barriers to insulin therapy in our exclusive DIWAS webinar on 27th October, 3:00 PM IST onwards.
