Are dry eyes and thyroid eye disease closely related? Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an inflammatory disorder that affects orbital fat, the lacrimal gland, and extraocular muscles. It also leads to more prominent meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) than in non-thyroidal dry eye disease (DED) patients. Therefore, educating TED patients about complete eyelid blinking could help soothe DED-triggered visual problems and foreign body sensations. |
